Frequently asked questions about Itqan114

Short, direct answers about Itqan (Itqan114), the free web app for memorizing the Quran and reciting it. Each answer is covered in detail in the guide or in the privacy policy.

What is Itqan114?

Itqan (Itqan114) is a free web app at itqan114.com for memorizing and revising the Quran: you recite from memory and it follows you word by word, stops you at a mistake, then gives you a report of your mistakes. It also has the mushaf with tafsir, listening, position tests, plans, and tools for teachers, institutions and parents.

Who is it for?

For anyone memorizing or revising the Quran, young or old; for circle teachers; for Quran schools, centres and associations; and for parents who follow their children. When you sign up you choose your account type: Student, Regular user, Teacher, Institution, or Parent / Guardian.

How does it follow my recitation?

It listens as you recite and compares what you say with the words of the mushaf, word by word: a correct word turns green, a word it is unsure it heard is marked in amber, and if you say a word differently or go silent on it, it stops so you can say it again; if you still miss it, it turns red and counts against you. After the session the whole recording is transcribed and compared with the mushaf, and the report appears within seconds.

Does it correct the rules of tajweed?

No. Itqan114 compares your words with the words of the mushaf after stripping the vowel marks, so it detects a word said differently, a word left out, or a word where you said a wrong letter; it does not judge tajweed rules such as madd, ghunna and idgham, nor the vowel marks. Tajweed is learned from a teacher.

Is it free?

Yes. Itqan114 is free, with no subscription and no payment. You need a free account to read the mushaf, recite and listen.

Which riwaya and which mushaf?

The riwaya of Hafs from Asim. The mushaf is the 15-line Madani mushaf of 604 pages, in the script of the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran.

Which languages does it work in?

The interface comes in seven languages: Arabic, English, French, Turkish, Indonesian, Persian and Urdu. The text of the Quran is always in Arabic, and in the other interface languages each ayah’s translation is shown in that language.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Itqan114 works in the browser, and you can install it on your phone or computer from the browser itself, without an app store: via “Install the app” in Chrome or Edge, or via “Add to Home Screen” in Safari on iPhone and iPad.

Does it work without internet?

No. Itqan114 needs a connection to show the mushaf, follow and analyse your recitation, and save your results, as well as to play audio and load tafsir. If the connection drops, a page tells you so, and the app comes back by itself when the connection does.

Is my voice kept, who hears it, and for how long?

During the session your voice is sent to OpenAI to be turned into text that your words are followed with, without your name or email. Then the audio of every recitation session saved in “Sessions” is kept, and can be heard by you, your teacher in a circle, your institution, your guardian and the platform administrator — not by a teacher who only follows you; audio from position tests and competitions is not kept. No video is kept unless you or your parent consent to recording for your teacher’s review. A kept recording deletes itself after the retention period you choose, from a week to a year — ninety days if you don’t choose — and you can delete it sooner.

Privacy policy

Can my teacher see my recitations?

Your teacher sees your sessions and their mistakes once you accept their invitation — and, if you have a parent on your account, once your parent consents too. They hear your saved session audio, and see video if it was kept with permission for recording for review; a teacher who only follows you does not hear your voice or see video. They never see your password.

How do I create an account for my child?

Sign up as a “Parent / Guardian”, then open “Family” and tap “Add child”: create a new account for them with their name, email and a password of their own, or link their existing account. Then set their consents — all of them are off until you turn them on.

Which browser and microphone do I need?

A modern browser on a phone or computer — live checking is most reliable in the latest Chrome — a microphone you allow for the site, and an address that starts with https. If permission was refused, allow the microphone from the padlock icon next to the address, then reload the page.

The words don’t move forward while I recite. What should I do?

Recite in a clear voice close to the microphone, and make sure you are reciting the passage on the screen. If you skipped something, go back to the word highlighted in gold and carry on from there; if the stop panel appears, say the word again. And if live checking doesn’t work, finish your recitation anyway: the correction is done after the session.

Does it replace a sheikh or teacher?

No. Itqan114 is a companion for reciting and revising between lessons: it follows the words and reveals what you forgot or said differently, but it does not teach tajweed or judge your recitation the way a teacher does. That is why it has tools your teacher can follow you with.

How can I contact you?

After logging in, open “Help” from “More”, choose a category and write your message; the reply reaches your email. Or write to us at supportitqan114@gmail.com. Before that, try “Troubleshooting” in the guide, which covers fourteen common problems and their fixes.
